The fourth edition of the SUTUS Summit, to be held in a few weeks at Les Roches Marbella, will serve to learn first-hand about the plans of the Spanish Space Agency (AEE) for the ARTEMIS program, which Spain joined in May to take the first woman to the Moon in 2025.
In addition, the ESA will explain in SUTUS (Space & Underwater Tourism Universal Summit), an event that also brings together other international agencies such as NASA and Japan’s JAXA, the advances in the Space Law and the National Space Plan.
The ESA, which was created on April 20, 2023 and is based in Seville, is one of the 28 international agencies participating in the ARTEMIS program, which will be one of the thematic axes of the event, to be held from September 26 to 28 at Les Roches Marbella.
Two senior ESA representatives at SUTUS 23
Álvaro Giménez Cañete, Special Government Delegate for ESA and former Director of Science of the European Space Agency (ESA), and Eva Villaver, Director of Space of the agency, will be in charge of representing ESA at SUTUS 23.
Giménez Cañete is a prominent Spanish astrophysicist who has held positions of great relevance in institutions linked to astrophysics at the national level, as well as in the European Space Agency (ESA).
For almost seven years he has held the position of Head of the Directorate of Science and Robotic Exploration and Director of the European Space Astronomy Center, both belonging to ESA. With the creation of the Spanish Space Agency, Giménez Cañete holds the position of special delegate of the Spanish Government for the Spanish Space Agency.
Eva Villaver is an astrophysicist, research professor at the Instituto Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), and has been a researcher at the Centro de Astrobiología del Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (CAB/INTA-CSIC), Professor in the Department of Theoretical Physics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and has been a staff member of the European Space Agency (ESA) at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) in Baltimore (USA) and a NASA postdoctoral researcher at STScI. Her research focuses on the search for and characterization of exoplanets and the evolution of stars like the Sun.

In June 2023 she was appointed as director of the Office of Space and Society of the Spanish Space Agency.
